Organic Denmark now counts 200 member companies
In the past two years 50 companies have joined Organic Denmark, thus the association now counts 200 member companies. Resultantly, the total number of company members now represent 98 % of the organic sale in Denmark.
– We are proud that virtually all organic companies are part of the community in Organic Denmark. It is unique in Europe that the entire organic industry is gathered in one association, where even competing companies work side by side to promote organics. This is one of the main reasons why Denmark is the world leading organic nation, says Per Kølster, Chairman of the Board of Organic Denmark.
Solid ‘know how and who’
The newest member companies are MÄT, Nørrebro Bryghus, GRØD and DanRoots.
At DanRoots, which has grown root crops since 1955, they have had a clear vision in recent years to focus on organics, and the owner Klaus Vestergaard believes that there is a great value in the membership of Organic Denmark.
– The organic market develops in a very positive direction, and we see interesting perspectives in this. We consider ourselves more and more as organic farmers rather than conventional farmers. That is why we want to be where the organic production is – and we believe that this is at Organic Denmark. Our impression is that the association has a skill set – both when it comes to knowledge of the market and political influence – those are skills that are difficult to find elsewhere. That is why we have chosen to join Organic Denmark, says Klaus Vestergaard.
Moreover, the relatively newly established company MÄT has recently joined Organic Denmark. Behind the company is Christian Stadill and his fiancée Alice Brunsø.
– We are very happy to have become part of Organic Denmark. It is refreshing with a trade association which fundamentally has a commercial focus, and which due to its solid know-how and -who can assist with sales – including internationalisation and export, says Christian Stadil, owner the conglomerate Thornico, which among others include Hummel®.
Thought MÄT’s product range is still under development, the fact that the products must be organic has been clear to Christian Stadil og Alice Brunsø from the beginning.
– The fact that our brand is both Danish and organic makes it a quite strong brand, which contributes to our differentiation. Organic production is growing, and we detect a great interest in Danish organics among new foreign business partners. Organic production has come to stay, since it reflects modern consumers’ request for food production, says Christian Stadil.
