Imagine a way of growing, producing, preparing, and consuming food where we give back more to our planet and each other than we take. Imagine agriculture that helps solve biodiversity and climate challenges and does not pollute our nature, seas, and drinking water. Where livestock live good, natural lives. Where the food we eat, and the way we eat it, make us healthier and happier. Imagine a world that thinks and acts organically all the way from farm to table.
Vision
A world that thinks and acts organically – for the benefit of people, animals, and our earth
Mission
We are paving the way for more and better organic practices – with new solutions, collaboration, and significant advocacy
Strategy
Organic Denmark's 2024-2030 strategy is focused on sharpening the profile of the organisation and emphasising its role as a prominent advocacy group for sustainable transformation, with organic principles as the key.
Organic Denmark - A green community for change
Fertile soil, healthy meals, and good animal lives are three central organic causes. Organic Denmark creates change in collaboration with our members, and our great strength is that we have always been an association for those ready for change.
Organic Denmark emerged as a response to the conventional and prevailing way of farming, and since 1981, it has been the driving force behind making organic farming one of Denmark's strengths today. Organic Denmark has been at the forefront of promoting the Danish organic label, which all Danes know and trust.
The credibility and spread of the organic label have led the Danes to be world leading organic consumers - the ones who buy the most organic products. A position as the world's leading organic nation does not come by itself. It requires constant focus on both spreading and developing organic farming so that it continually meets consumer demands and the planet's needs.
Organic Denmark is a community for visionary farmers, businesses, professional kitchens, and consumers who want to eat and cook in a better way than we do today. An association for those who dream of making organic farming the norm. Where we all take responsibility for our soil, our animals, and each other by growing, producing, and buying food that is made as naturally as possible. A constantly evolving agricultural food system that helps solve some of the planet's biggest challenges.
Organic - Because we only have one planet
Six of the nine planetary boundaries have been exceeded. The top 10 highest-rated risks over a ten-year perspective all concern what is happening to the climate, to biodiversity, and to natural resources.
The way we cultivate the land and the food we produce and consume are a central part of the problem as well as a crucial part of the solution. There is no longer any doubt that we cannot continue to cultivate our land and produce our food as we do today. There is a need for Danish agriculture to transition, and we must learn to eat, consume, and produce food in an entirely new way.
Organic Denmark will work to ensure that we have a farming and a food system that contribute to solving the planet's crises rather than creating them. The four principles of organic farming (care, ecology, fairness, and health) are our inherent guidelines for the necessary change.
Organic - A holistic view
The strength of organic farming has always been that it is based on a holistic approach that considers all aspects as much as possible. The whole is not as easy to understand as simple answers to isolated problems, but we believe in the strength of solving the world's crises with a focus on their mutual impact on each other.
This also means that we fight for the climate crisis to be solved in conjunction with – and not at the expense of – other crises of our planet: biodiversity, water environment, animal welfare, and health.
Our task is to continually remind each other and our society of the strengths of organic farming, and we must continue to develop organic farming and the food system in a sustainable direction that meets the expectations that consumers now and, in the future, have for their food. We do this through significant policy, value-creating partnerships, and concrete, innovative projects that involve and create value for our members – and for our planet.
